Surgery changes the size of the stomach, but it does not automatically remove the emotional reasons people turn to food. Food can still become a way to manage:

  • stress
  • loneliness
  • frustration
  • tiredness
  • overwhelm
  • reward
  • comfort

This does not mean someone is doing badly. It means there may still be a need for soothing, structure, support, or nourishment that has not yet been met in another way.

Gentle reflection:

Before you eat, it can be helpful to ask:

“What do I need right now — food, comfort, energy, rest, or a pause?”
